Year 7 PE - Classroom Activity: Leading healthy and active lifestyles

Heart related illness accounts for more than 340,000 lives per year. A lot of this is to do with a lack of physical activity and poor lifestyle patterns (poor diet habits; smoking etc).

Write a letter to the Health minister stating:-

i) Why you are worried about the high levels of inactivity in society
ii) What the long term problems are to those affected by poor lifestyle habits
iii) Solutions you may have in encouraging people to take part in more physical activity
iv) State the long term benefits are of healthy and active lifestyles.

Design a poster that can be used to promote a healthy and Active lifestyle to everybody who works at Highgate Wood School.

The best letters and posters will be displayed in A10 from September.

Students will be invited to present their work in Assemblies next year.

AS PE - Olympic Homework

Please prepare:-

1. An overview of the ancient game
2. The forming of the modern olympic movement
3. The olympic motto, ideal and charter

Do you think all of the above are still relevant in modern sport?

Is there still a place for amateur ideals in a professional/comercial world?

Please write a short piece explaining your answer.

1) Stretching can be used to improve the range of movement at a joint. Name and describe four different ways of stretching. (8 marks)
